Preparing to make a han eri

Measure around your juban's collar and also measure the total width, front and back, of the collar stiffener. Most jubans will need a han eri that is 70cm long, although 60cm may work for some people. (I need one that's at least 70cm.) Here the total finished width will need to be about 12cm.

Note: Many jubans have a tapered effect to the collar, it being narrower at the center back and wider near both ends. These directions do not take this into account, nevertheless, the finished han eri will look fine. It is possible to make a han eri with a better fit, but the process is more complicated and requires more sewing skill.
